Cougars Fall in Season Opener to Finger Lakes

The Frederick Community College men's soccer team opened its 2025 season at home on Saturday afternoon, facing off against Finger Lakes Community College in what proved to be a challenging debut. The visiting Lakers struck early and often, building a commanding first-half lead on their way to an 8-0 victory over the Cougars.

Finger Lakes wasted no time putting pressure on the Frederick defense, scoring just three minutes into the match and continuing their relentless attack with five more goals before halftime. Cougar goalkeepers Casey Cutshall and Thomas McCaffery combined for 11 saves in the match as they worked to keep the high-powered Laker offense at bay. Frederick created five shots of their own, three of which landed on target, including looks from Praise Ngoma, Andres Martinez, and Cullen Duggan. Despite the scoreline, the Cougars fought hard until the final whistle.

With 18 regular-season games still ahead, Frederick will look to regroup quickly and turn their focus to their next challenge. The Cougars will return to action at home on Tuesday, August 26, when they host Cecil College at 4:30 PM at FCC Stadium.
