Unbeaten Cougars Blast Lake Region State College 20-2
Frederick Community College Cougars baseball continued its dominant start to the 2026 season on Tuesday afternoon, powering past Lake Region State College–ND with a 20–2 victory in Davenport, Florida. Now five games into their RussMatt Baseball: College Baseball Invitational slate, the Cougars remain unbeaten at 5–0.
Frederick came out firing with four runs in the opening frame, built the lead with another in the second, and broke the game wide open with a nine-run third inning that put Lake Region on its heels for good.
The Cougars' offense delivered top to bottom, piling up 15 hits and 17 RBI. Casey Westerberg reached base four times and drove in a pair, while Cole Swinimer set the tone at the top with two hits and three stolen bases. Hunter Lee and Braydon Kelman both launched home runs as part of six combined RBI, and Jack Kerns added a late blast of his own. Luis Perez Alfaro doubled twice and drove in a run, and Vincenzo Cusat and Clayton Dorsey each added two RBI to the outburst, helping Frederick pull away inning after inning.
Frederick's pitching remained steady throughout the afternoon. Starter Zach Bortner opened with two hitless innings, Daniel Jakubowyc worked the middle frames with the only two runs allowed, and Niko ThaLassinos earned the win with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts. Matthew Calabrese closed the door with a clean final inning.
Cougars turn their attention to their next matchup in Davenport. FCC returns to action on Wednesday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. for a single game against Kalamazoo Valley Community College as their Florida stretch continues.
