Cougars Stay Hot in Florida with Sweep of Kalamazoo Valley

The Frederick Community College Cougars continued their strong start to the season on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against Kalamazoo Valley Community College in Davenport as part of the RussMatt Baseball: College Baseball Invitational. The pair of wins pushed Frederick to 4-0 on the season and kept momentum rolling as the Cougars settled into their Florida trip.

Frederick opened the day with a 6–4 victory, building an early lead and holding off a late push. The Cougars scored three runs in the first inning and added insurance throughout the middle frames. Cole Swinimer and Andrew Varga combined to score four runs at the top of the order, while Luis Perez Alfaro and Riley Anderson each drove in two runs to anchor the offense. On the mound, Tyler Haupt delivered five shutout innings to earn the win, allowing just one hit and keeping Kalamazoo Valley off the scoreboard until the late innings.

Game two belonged to the Frederick offense from the opening pitch, as the Cougars rolled to a 17–5 win in a shortened contest. Frederick exploded for nine runs in the first two innings and never looked back. Clayton Dorsey delivered the big blow of the afternoon with a pair of home runs and seven RBIs, while Cole Swinimer, Andrew Varga, and Vincenzo Cusat all chipped in multi-RBI performances. Ethan Hall picked up the win out of the bullpen, supported by solid relief from Jacob Curtis to close out the sweep.

With four straight wins to open the season, the Cougars remain in Davenport with five games still ahead in Florida. Frederick returns to action Tuesday, March 3 at 12:30 PM with a single game against Lake Region State College.
