Cold Shooting Dooms Women’s Basketball in MD JUCO Tournament Loss to Seahawks
LARGO, Md. - The FCC women's basketball team lost its opening round game at the MD JUCO Conference Tournament to NJCAA D2 No. 20 Cecil College, 79-57, on Thursday afternoon at Prince George's Community College. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 14-11 overall on the season. Cecil College improves to 20-4 on the season.
FCC started out hot out of the gates as they jumped to the early 5-1 advantage over Cecil College thanks to a Dajah Gee 3-point field goal followed by a Jone Ayers lay-up. However, the Seahawks would storm back and take a 44-28 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of action. The deficit was too much to overcome for FCC as the Seahawks sealed the victory in the second half.
FCC's sophomore sensation Dajah Gee scored a game-high 27 points (9-20 FGs, 7-of-12 3PT FGs) in the loss. Gee recorded a double-double, pulling down 10 boards for the Cougars. Teammate Jone Ayers was the only other player to register in double figures. Ayers netted 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds. while dishing out four assists.
The Cougars connected on just 18-of-69 (26.1%) field goals for the game and committed 23 miscues in the loss. Cecil dominated the boards, outrebounding FCC, 60-37.
The Cougars will return to the hardwood on February 27, when they travel for a matchup against Northern Virginia Community College. This is a crucial game for both teams as postseason is right around the corner as teams jockey for seeding position. Tip-off is set for 5:00 P.M.
