Cougars’ Season Ends in La Plata with Game Three Setback
Frederick Community College Cougars' softball postseason run came to a close Sunday afternoon as the Cougars fell 9–1 to College of Southern Maryland in the decisive third game of the best-of-three Region 20 Division II quarterfinals at the CSM Softball Field. The loss eliminated Frederick from playoff contention and closed the 2026 campaign with an overall record of 18–19, including a strong 12–8 mark in Region 20 DII play.
CSM seized control early, striking for three runs in the bottom of the first inning as Frederick was forced to play from behind almost immediately. The Cougars briefly answered in the second when Leo Cline tripled, recording her 100th career hit, and came home on Raegan Miller's RBI single, trimming the deficit to 3–1 and providing a flash of momentum for the visitors. That would be the lone run Frederick could push across. Miller collected both a hit and the Cougars' only RBI, while Cline and Addison Custer added hits.
Alondra Sidock and Miller split time in the circle for Frederick, combining to face a deep CSM lineup that produced 14 hits and scored in every inning but the sixth to steadily widen the gap.
The loss marked the conclusion of a season in which the Cougars remained competitive throughout Region 20 play and secured a postseason berth. The team ends 2026 after facing a tough regional schedule, laying a foundation for the future of FCC softball.
