Second-Half Response Not Enough as Frederick Falls to Cecil
Frederick Community College men's basketball showed resilience after a difficult opening half but was unable to overcome an early deficit in an 81–64 loss to Cecil College on Wednesday night at home. The Cougars trailed 36–17 at halftime before responding with a much stronger second half, outscoring Cecil 47–45 over the final 20 minutes. With the result, Frederick moves to 10-10 overall and 5-5 in Region 20 DII play.
Frederick struggled to find rhythm offensively in the first half, but the Cougars came out with renewed energy after the break. Cameron Canty led Frederick with 12 points and eight rebounds, providing a spark in the paint, while Gabriel Jones also scored 14 points and connected on a pair of three-pointers. Brandon Williamson added eight points off the bench, and Manny Hernandez contributed with five points and three assists as Frederick worked to cut into the deficit.
Despite the improved second-half effort, Cecil's balanced scoring and control of the tempo proved decisive. Frederick competed defensively and attacked the boards, but the early hole was too much to overcome. The Cougars' response after halftime reflected their resilience and ability to adjust, even as the outcome slipped away.
Frederick will look to bounce back on the road in its next contest when the Cougars travel to face the Community College of Allegheny County on Monday, February 9, with tipoff scheduled for 3:30 PM.
