Second Half Dooms FCC In Opening Game At National Tourney

Danville, Il.- The Frederick Community College men's basketball team hit the hardwood for the first time in school history today at the NJCAA D2 Men's basketball National Championship.  Frederick Community College would square off against #3 Kirkwood Community College (Cedar Rapids, IA).

The Cougars held a two-point advantage by the score of 37-35 heading into halftime, but would eventually fall to Kirkwood Community College by a score of 86-61.

 

1st Half

FCC's sharp-shooter Josiah Jones scorched the nets tallying 14 points in the first twenty minutes of action while teammate Dashon Bell chipped in with six points.  As a team, the Cougars connected on 11-of-21 shots and held Kirkwood CC to just 35 points playing lock down defense.

 

2nd Half

The final twenty minutes of the game was the difference as Kirkwood Community College came out of the locker room shooting the ball really well.  Kirkwood CC would connect on 15-of-21 (.714) shots in the second half including 7-of-8 from beyond the arc. Kirkwood CC controlled the glass as well out-rebounding FCC 37 to 26.  Kirkwood registered five players in double figures led by Josh Meirer who pumped in 13 points.

FCC was led by Josiah Jones who tallied 18 points while teammate Dashon Bell finished the game with 13.  FCC sits at 13-17 overall on the season.

Up Next:  FCC will take on South Mountain Community College on Thursday morning with tip-off slated for 10:00 AM EST (9:00 AM CST) in the consolation bracket of the National Tournament.
