Men's Basketball Captures Region XX B Championship; Punches Ticket To National Tourney

Hagerstown, Md. – What a record setting weekend for the Frederick Community College men's basketball program.  For the first time in school history, the Cougars punched their ticket to the NJCAA D2 National Tournament.  On Saturday Night, FCC knocked off No. 19 Northern Virginia Community College in a double overtime thriller 73-69.  In the Region XX B D2 Championship game on Sunday afternoon the Cougars defeated the Garrett Lakers 91-71.  This is the first time in school history that FCC has qualified for the national tournament in men's basketball.  With the victory, FCC sports an overall record of 13-16.

Heading into Sunday's contest, FCC Head Coach Emonte Hill and his team knew they would be in for a battle.  The Cougars traveled to Garrett College for a MD JUCO match-up on December 3rd and the Lakers defeated FCC 91-62.  On Sunday afternoon, the Lakers saw a much different Cougar team that was on a mission.

The Cougars took a slight advantage into the locker room by a score of 43-40 thanks in part to some hot shooting by FCC's Josiah Jones.  He was on fire from beyond the arc and drained some deep jumpers looking as smooth as Steph Curry for the Golden State Warriors.  Jones would finish the contest with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from deep range.  Teammate Eric Blankson had himself quite a weekend!  Blankson pulled down eight boards on Saturday night and pumped in 17 points in Sunday's victory.  He also earned the nickname "Windex Man" as he cleaned up on the glass hauling down nine rebounds.  Jordan Dawson and O'Nel David chipped in with 12 points each while Morris Robinson scored 11 points.  David and Robinson played a solid game at the point controlling the tempo of the game.

FCC sizzled the nets on Sunday afternoon shooting 30-of-64 (47%) from the field including an impressive 8-of-18 from 3-point land.
