Cougars Split Tri-Match at Baltimore City, Move to 4-5 Overall
The Frederick Community College women's volleyball team traveled to Baltimore on Friday for a Region 20 tri-match and came away with a dominant win and a hard-fought setback to move to 4-5 overall and 4-4 in divisional play.
In the opener against the host Baltimore City Community College Panthers, the Cougars were in full control from start to finish, sweeping the match 25-10, 25-13, 25-10. Frederick's offense clicked early, hitting .447 as a team while piling up 23 service aces. Setter Arianna Calhoun distributed 23 assists and added seven aces, Eva Turner led the attack with eight kills and six aces, and Jakera Dorsey posted a blistering .625 hitting percentage on six kills. Victoria Bell contributed four kills, four aces and a block, while Brynn Cochran added seven kills on .455 hitting. The Cougars' balance and aggressive serving never allowed the Panthers to settle in, helping Frederick improve to .500 on the season.
In the nightcap against Potomac State College, the Cougars battled but fell in three tight sets, 19-25, 18-25, 27-29. After a slow start in the first two frames, Frederick came alive in the third set, hitting .407 and pushing the Catamounts deep into extra points before dropping the set by just two. Brynn Cochran led the offense with seven kills and three aces, Eva Turner followed with eight kills and two aces, and Calhoun added four kills, 17 assists and 10 digs. Despite the loss, the match highlighted the team's resilience and ability to respond under pressure against a tough opponent.
Frederick now sits at 4-5 overall and 4-4 in Region 20 DII play as it looks to regroup for a single home match against Montgomery College on Tuesday, September 23 at 6:00 PM.
