Cougars Earn First Win of the Season Against Chesapeake College
The Frederick Community College Cougars women's volleyball team broke through for its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Chesapeake College Skipjacks 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-20) in the second match of their home tri-match. After coming close earlier in the day, the Cougars clicked on both sides of the ball to control the tempo and finish strong in each set.
Brynn Cochran led a balanced attack with 14 kills on .243 hitting and added five service aces and 11 digs for a match-high 19 points. Eva Turner contributed 12 kills and four aces, while setter Arianna Calhoun directed the offense with 30 assists, three kills, and six digs. Johnna Ryan chipped in seven kills and six digs, and freshman Giselle Thompson anchored the back row with 12 digs and two service aces. As a team, Frederick posted its highest hitting percentage of the young season at .178 and racked up 14 service aces in the sweep.
With the win, the Cougars move to 1-3 overall and head into their next test with renewed confidence. They will travel to Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 13, for a tri-match at Westmoreland County Community College, facing the host, the Wolfpack, and Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks as they look to build on their momentum.
