Darien Wingate serves as the head coach of the Frederick Community College women’s basketball program, bringing a strong background in player development, program building, and fostering a competitive team culture.

Wingate is known for his ability to develop disciplined, high-performing teams while prioritizing the holistic growth of student-athletes. His coaching philosophy emphasizes accountability, empathy, integrity, and hard work, and is committed to creating an environment where student-athletes can thrive both on the court and in the classroom.

Prior to joining Frederick, Wingate held the role of Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas. He also gained extensive head coaching experience at Southwestern Community College, where he led the women’s basketball program, focusing on player development, academic achievement, and establishing a strong team culture.

Wingate’s collegiate coaching experience includes a season at Motlow State Community College, where he played a key role in strength and conditioning, individual skill development, recruiting, scouting, and supporting student-athlete academic success.

He also spent five seasons at Penn State Wilkes-Barre as an assistant men’s basketball coach, contributing to one of the program’s most successful stretches. During his tenure, the team amassed 95 wins, including a 62–24 record in conference play. His impact helped produce multiple All-Americans, all-conference players, a Defensive Player of the Year, and a national tournament MVP.

Wingate’s approach centers on building a championship-level culture grounded in accountability, competitiveness, and a shared sense of purpose. He is committed to developing student-athletes who are prepared for success beyond their college careers while competing at a high level.

A former collegiate student-athlete, Wingate played at Keystone College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice. He began his coaching career in 2015.
