Frederick Falls to Southern Maryland Despite Strong Start
Frederick Community College Cougars women's basketball opened Monday night's matchup against the College of Southern Maryland Hawks with energy, taking a 20-15 lead after the first quarter. However, the Cougars struggled to maintain momentum as the Hawks tightened their defense and surged ahead in the second quarter, outscoring Frederick 13-4 to grab a 28-24 halftime advantage. The third quarter saw Frederick fight back behind strong play from Trinity Lindblade and Heaven Murray, cutting the deficit with a 21-point frame, but Southern Maryland responded with a dominant fourth quarter, pulling away for a 65-51 victory.
Frederick's Trinity Lindblade led the scoring with 16 points, including three three-pointers, and Murray contributed 13 points and eight rebounds. Taliyah Alexander anchored the defense with 10 rebounds, but turnovers and shooting struggles—31.3% from the field—proved costly down the stretch.
The Cougars now sit at 1-6 overall and 0-4 in Region 20 DII play. They'll look to regroup at home when they host Potomac State College on December 3 at 5 PM.
