Late Rally Falls Short as Cougars Drop Opener at Home
The Frederick Community College Cougars women's basketball team opened the 2025 season with a hard-fought battle at home, narrowly falling to Garrett College 52-50 on Wednesday evening. The Cougars came out strong, leading 13-10 after the first quarter and extending their edge to 23-19 at halftime. However, Garrett surged in the second half, outscoring Frederick 16-11 in the third quarter to take a slim lead heading into the final frame. Despite a late push from Frederick, including a 16-point fourth quarter, the comeback fell just short.
Heaven Murray paced the Cougars with an impressive 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, adding seven rebounds and two assists. Maylee Regan dominated the boards with 14 rebounds and chipped in 15 points for a double-double performance. Trinity Lindblade contributed eight points and five assists, while Chebet Nganga added six points and seven rebounds. Frederick shot 33.3% from the field and 18.2% from beyond the arc, compared to Garrett's 29% overall shooting.
With the narrow loss, Frederick moves to 0-1 on the season and will look to bounce back quickly. The Cougars return to action at home on Saturday, November 8, when they host Penn State Mont Alto at 12 PM.
