Cougars Women's Basketball Falls to CCBC Catonsville in Quarterfinal 63-44
The #7 Frederick Community College Cougars women's basketball team faced a tough defeat in the NJCAA DII Region 20 Championship Quarterfinal contest against #2 CCBC Catonsville Cardinals 63-44.
The Cougars trailed by seven points going into halftime, 27-20, and came out of halftime with stifling defense to outscore the Cardinals, 12-9 in the third quarter, to cut the deficit to four points entering the final frame.
Frederick gave a strong effort, but the Cougar's offensive struggles hindered their momentum, and they shot only 26.2% from the field. Despite their shooting woes, FCC competed on the boards, grabbing 43 rebounds. Jasmine Hardy's contribution of 13 boards and Andrea Owusu's contribution of 8 rebounds led to the rebounding effort for FCC the glass.
FCC had difficulty getting to the free-throw line, attempting only six free throws throughout the game compared to the Cardinals' 27 attempts at the charity strip.
Paige Smith was FCC's leading scorer with 24 points, including four three-pointers. Jasmine Hardy followed up with five points.
The FCC Cougars women's basketball team concluded its season with a record of 12-12 overall and 4-7 in MDJUCO conference play.
