Cougars Rally for Sweep Over Hawks

The Frederick Community College Cougars women's softball team delivered a strong home performance on Wednesday, sweeping a Region 20 Division II doubleheader against Hagerstown Community College to improve to 13-11 overall and 8-6 in conference play.

In the opener, Frederick leaned on timely hitting and steady pitching to post a 5-4 win in a tightly contested seven-inning game. After scoring twice in the second inning on Hagerstown miscues and adding another run in the third, the Cougars created separation in the fifth with key contributions from Alyvia Shew, Raegan Miller, and Alondra Sidock. Sidock doubled in a run during that frame and went the distance in the circle, allowing eight hits and four runs while keeping the Hawks at bay late. Hagerstown pressured Frederick in the final innings, trimming the lead to one, but the Cougars' defense and pitching held firm on their home field to secure the victory.

In game two, the Cougars' offense could come back when behind in late innings, securing an 8-7 victory. After Hagerstown's early three-run home run, the Cougars chipped away with a clutch RBI hit from Raegan Miller to tie the game by the fourth inning. Yockelson then hit a vital two-run single in the fifth, and Leo Cline sparked momentum in the sixth with a solo home run to tie the game. Addison Custer followed with a go-ahead RBI single, which ultimately decided the game. Raegan Miller pitched six innings, battling through challenging moments, and Sidock finished strong in the seventh to seal the sweep.

The Cougars now turn their attention to the road as they prepare for another Region 20 challenge, traveling to face Anne Arundel Community College on Friday, April 10.
