Cougars Battle Through High-Scoring Doubleheader at CCBC Catonsville
The Frederick Community College Cougars were tested on the road Saturday afternoon, dropping both games at CCBC Catonsville. FCC fell 8–0 in the opening contest before nearly pulling off a statement win in Game 2, ultimately coming up short in a wild 16–15 finish. The Cougars leave Catonsville with a 7–7 overall record and a 3–5 mark in Region 20 Division II play.
In Game 1, Frederick's Leo Cline paced the Cougars with a perfect 2-for-2 performance and Madison Ohler added a double, yet FCC was unable to push a run across despite collecting six hits. Catonsville broke through in the third inning with a three-run frame and continued to apply pressure in the fourth and fifth. Alondra Sidock worked four innings in the circle for Frederick, but defensive miscues and extra-base hits allowed the hosts to pull away, ending the game in five innings by an 8–0 score.
In the second game, Frederick came out aggressively, scoring three runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Ohler and a two-run triple off the bat of Alyvia Shew. The teams traded momentum throughout the afternoon, with FCC answering CCBC rallies with big innings of its own. A five-run third inning gave the Cougars the lead, sparked by a three-run double from Raegan Miller and continued production from Joelle Staub and Leo Cline. Frederick surged again in the fifth, plating six runs to take a 14–8 advantage as Shew, Miller, Staub and Cline all delivered key hits.
Catonsville mounted a comeback late, gradually closing the gap before erupting for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with the 16–15 win. Frederick finished the game with 16 hits and strong performances throughout the lineup, including three-hit games from Cline, Shew, and Ava Yockelson, and a five-RBI effort from Miller.
Frederick now turns its focus their next game at home with a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 25, hosting Allegany College of Maryland with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 PM.
