The Frederick Community College Cougars softball team opened Region 20 play on Monday in Frederick with an exciting doubleheader split against WVU Potomac State College, rallying for an 8-6 victory in Game 1 before falling 7-4 in the nightcap. The split moved Frederick to 5-3 overall as the Cougars began Region 20 DII competition.

Game 1 featured a dramatic comeback by the Cougars after the Catamounts built a 5-0 lead through four innings. The Cougars responded in the bottom of the fourth when Alyvia Shew delivered a clutch two-run single to score Leo Cline and Madison Ohler and cut the deficit to three. Frederick's offense then erupted in the fifth inning with a six-run rally that flipped the game. Addison Custer sparked the surge with a two-run double, and Ohler followed with a two-run single to give the Cougars the lead. Shew came through again with another two-run single, finishing the game with four RBIs. Ohler added two hits and two RBIs, while Brooke Renninger contributed two hits and a stolen base. In the circle, Alondra Sidock started the game and Raegan Miller closed the final two innings to secure the win as Frederick completed the comeback.

The second game was another competitive battle as the Cougars struck first in the opening inning when Cline drove in Joelle Staub. Potomac State answered in the second and then broke the game open in the fourth on a grand slam by Skyla Compton to take a 5-1 lead. Frederick continued to fight back, with Staub delivering an RBI double in the fourth and the Cougars scoring twice in the sixth to pull within two runs. Renninger led the Frederick offense with a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate, while Staub scored twice and Cline drove in two runs. Despite collecting ten hits, the Cougars were unable to overcome the deficit as Potomac State added an insurance run in the seventh.
