Frederick Comes Up Short in Regular-Season Finale Against PGCC Owls
Frederick Community College men's basketball closed out the regular season with a hard-fought performance, but a late push from Prince George's Community College handed the Cougars a 92–87 loss on Saturday afternoon. The defeat drops Frederick to 12–13 overall and 5–10 in Region 20 Division II competition, leaving the Cougars' postseason hopes dependent on the results of other conference matchups still to be played.
Frederick opened the game with confidence, feeding off the Sophomore Day energy inside the gym. The Cougars set the pace early, moving the ball well and creating high-quality looks from the perimeter. Kylan Johnson and Gabriel Jones powered the offensive attack, helping Frederick build a 40–33 halftime lead with efficient outside shooting and strong off-ball movement.
The second half became a back-and-forth battle as Prince George's stepped up its pressure and found success at the free-throw line. Despite the momentum swings, Frederick refused to back down. Johnson delivered a complete performance, finishing with 26 points and 10 assists while hitting four three-pointers. Jones kept the Cougars within striking distance with 24 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Dayvon Dorsey gave Frederick a crucial lift off the bench with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while Cameron Canty anchored the interior with a 12-rebound effort.
Frederick continued to push the pace and create opportunities, but the Cougars could not close the gap as Prince George's executed down the stretch to secure the win.
With the regular season now complete, Frederick will await the final Region 20 DII results to determine if it finishes within the top eight and secures a postseason berth. The Cougars will spend the coming days watching the standings closely, hoping their résumé earns them a spot in the tournament field.
