Frederick Holds Off Southern Maryland in High-Scoring Battle
Frederick Community College Cougars men's basketball secured an exciting home victory Monday night, defeating the College of Southern Maryland Hawks 94-87 in a fast-paced contest. The Cougars came out firing, building a commanding 52-33 lead by halftime thanks to precise shooting and aggressive play in the paint. Southern Maryland mounted a strong second-half rally, scoring 54 points and cutting the deficit to single digits, but Frederick held steady down the stretch to secure the win.
Kylan Johnson led the Cougars with a game-high 24 points, going 8-for-18 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line. Gabriel Jones added 14 points, including three three-pointers, while Ryan Tientcheu and Elijah Palmer combined for 24 points and consistent contributions on both ends. Frederick shot 50.7% from the floor and 79.2% from the line, key factors in holding off the Hawks' late surge.
With the win, Frederick improves to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in Region 20 DII play. The Cougars return to action at home on December 3 at 7 PM to face Potomac State College, aiming to build on this momentum.
