Cougars Fall Short in Season Opener Against Garrett College
In a heart-pounding season opener at the Athletics Center on Wednesday night, the Frederick Community College men's basketball team came up just short against the Garrett College Lakers, falling 76-75 in a game that went down to the wire.
Frederick came out strong, leading 41-37 at halftime behind the dominant inside presence of Thierry Patchou, who posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Bryson Boyd added 18 points, including several key buckets in the first half that helped the Cougars build their lead. Kylan Johnson chipped in 14 points and dished out five assists, while Gabriel Jones provided a spark off the bench with 13 points, including three three-pointers.
Despite their strong start, the Cougars struggled to maintain momentum in the second half. The Cougars showed resilience and depth, outrebounding Garrett 47-39 and tallying 13 assists, but were ultimately undone by shooting struggles from beyond the arc and the free throw line, hitting just 30% from three and 57% from the stripe.
Frederick will look to bounce back quickly as they return home to face Patrick Henry College on Saturday, November 8 at 2 PM.
