Nick Pantos perfect game bid falls two outs short

FREDERICK, Md. – FCC starting pitcher Nick Pantos literally came within inches of perfection. The hard-throwing righty turned in a stellar pitching performance in a dominating 6-3 victory over Hudson Valley Community College on Monday afternoon. With the victory, FCC improves to 10-9 on the season.
Pantos was 'dialed-in' once he crossed the white lines. He struck out the first seven batters he faced and took a perfect game into the top of the seventh inning and was just two outs away from perfection. A high-chopper off the turf skidded off the mitt of Pantos to break up the perfect game. Hudson Valley would add three runs in the inning. He would toss a complete game striking out 15 batters in the victory. Pantos improves to 4-1 on the season. He would finish the game scattering just three hits and zero walks!
The Cougar offense got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as Jared Pine smacked a hit to put FCC up 1-0. Mitchell Long would smoke a single in the bottom of the fourth inning plating two runs, putting FCC up 3-0 after four innings of play. FCC would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory.
Eric Naylor, Hayden Kissel, and Long each had two hits. Credit Kissel and Brandon Austin with a stolen base each in the victory.
