Rourke Strikes Out 15 In Game 1 To Lead FCC Over CSM; Cougars Drops Nightcap In Extras

WALDORF, Md. – The No. 17 Frederick Community College baseball team split with the College of Southern Maryland on Thursday afternoon in MD JUCO conference action. FCC won game one by the score of 7-4 behind a dominating pitching performance by Brian Rourke.  The Cougars dropped the nightcap in extra innings 3-2. FCC is 27-8 on the season including 8-5 in conference play. CSM sits at 8-19 on the season including 3-12 in the conference.

GAME 1 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

FCC starting pitcher Brian Rourke (7-1) was the storyline of Game 1. FCC trailed by the score of 4-3 late in the contest before the offense put up three runs in the 6th inning and tacked on one more run in the 7th to secure the victory.

Rourke appears as intense as they come when on the mound and has become one of the toughest pitchers to face. He turned in quite an outing striking out 15 batters and giving up just four hits to notch his seventh victory of the season.

The Cougars tallied 14 hits led by Ryan Capstick with three. Teammates Brady Harju, Seth Holler, and Brayden Lackey each had two hits apiece. Both Capstick and Holler homered in the victory. Harju knocked in three runs and Jett Manning (1-for-2, 2B, 2 BB) knocked in a pair.

GAME 2 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

FCC would tie the game up in the sixth inning at 2-2 and extra innings were needed to decide this contest. In the end, CSM would score a run in the bottom of the 9th to earn the win. FCC starting pitcher Colby Rudis threw well and suffers the tough no decision going eight strong innings while striking out 12. Antonio Bianchini was tagged with the loss for the Cougars and falls to 1-1 on the year. The Cougars were held to just five hits in game two led by Tyler Robinson with a pair of singles.
