Baseball sweeps doubleheader on Sunday, Improves to 3-1 on the season
Harrisonburg, Va. - The No. 15 Frederick Community College baseball team returned to the diamond on Sunday afternoon against Eastern Mennonite University JV. The Cougars entered this weekend ranked No. 15 in the NJCAA Division II National Poll. FCC (3-1) defeated the Royals 6-1 and 6-2 to cap off a successful weekend.
Game 1
FCC 6 Eastern Mennonite University JV 1
The storyline of game 1 was sophomore left-handed pitcher Doug Pearl. Making his 2017 pitching debut, Pearl didn't disappoint. The crafty lefty tossed six strong innings of shutout baseball and picked up the win. Pearl struck out seven and gave up just four hits. The Cougar offense wasted little time recording two runs in the top of the first and three runs in the sixth inning to secure the 6-1 victory.
The Cougar offense showed up smacking out 11 hits in the victory. Leading the way for FCC was Nick Fuhrmann who went 3-for-4 while scoring two runs. Teammates Jett Manning and Maciah Thomas had two hits apiece. Thomas would smack two doubles as Manning swiped three bases for the Cougars. FCC catcher Garett Blank knocked in two runs.
Game 2
FCC 6 Eastern Mennonite University JV 2
FCC starting pitcher Brian Rourke had a strong showing for his first outing of the year. Rourke pitched four inning giving up just one hit and fanning three batters. The strong right-hander picks up the win on the mound and sits at 1-0. Tip your cap to the FCC bullpen comprised of Travis Reapsome, David Tiskevics, and Antonio Bianchini for shutting down the Royals offense. The Cougars pounded out eight hits in game two. Jett Manning, Alex Aristy, and Thomas Gonzalez each had two hits. Both Manning and Aristy are off to a strong start at the dish registering six hits each and batting .429 on the young season. Teammate CJ Mackinson has hit safely in three straight games.

FCC will return to the diamond on Friday (2/17) when they host Hood College JV for a single 7-inning game. This will be the home opener for the Cougars. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
