No. 15 Baseball Splits in Season Opener

Virginia Beach, Va.- The Frederick Community College baseball team opened the 2017 campaign on the road with a doubleheader split with Bryant & Stratton College (VA). The Cougars entered this weekend ranked No. 15 in the NJCAA Division II National Poll. FCC (1-1) dropped the season-opener 6-1 but bounced back with a strong offensive performance in the nightcap with a 10-4 victory over the Bobcats (1-1).

The Cougars would tally just three hits in the season opener against the Bobcats. FCC sophomore second baseman Jett Manning had a double and recorded an RBI in the loss. FCC starting pitcher Colby Rudis (0-1) was tagged with the loss. Rudis would pitch 4.1 innings registering five strikeouts in his 2017 debut.

Game 2
FCC 10 Bryant & Stratton College (VA) 4

FCC came out swinging the bats in game two. The Cougars would explode for four runs in the sixth inning to seal the game and earn their first victory of the season. Sophomore centerfielder Alex Aristy carried the offensive load going 3-for-4 while knocking in six runs. Aristy homered and had two doubles for the Cougars. Teammates Eric Dressler and Brady Harju joined Aristy by depositing baseballs over the fence in the victory. Dressler, getting the start behind the dish, registered a solid stat line. He went 2-for-3 at the plate, knocked in two runs, and scored two runs. Dressler also stole his first base of the season.

Making his 2017 debut on the hill for the Cougars was right-handed pitcher Kyle Raubenstine. The right-handed pitcher gave up just two earned runs over 4.1 innings to earn the victory. Raubenstine struck out five batter while walking just one batter. FCC reliever Teagan Staver  came in to pitch the final 2.2 innings giving up just one hit an no runs to seal the victory for FCC and earn the save.

FCC will return to the diamond on Sunday (2/12) when they travel to Eastern Mennonite University (Harrisonburg, Va.) to take on the Royals in a twinbill. First pitch is set for 12:30 PM.
