As the NJCAA continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, the association is committed to educating student-athletes on their eligibility status while attending a two-year institution and on future opportunities to continue their academic and athletic careers at a four-year college. Below are overviews of the decisions made by the NJCAA, NCAA, and NAIA regarding eligibility waivers for the 2020-21 academic year.
NJCAA In October 2020, with the approval from the NJCAA Board of Regents, the NJCAA announced that all 2020-21 NJCAA sports seasons (fall, winter, spring) will not count towards student-athlete eligibility. For the 2021-22 academic year, any returning student-athletes who were signed to an NJCAA Letter of Intent for the 2020-21 academic year and return to the same institution will be considered “non-counters” for a letter of intent purposes. Current eligibility and academic requirements will still apply in order for student-athletes to compete in the 2020-21 regular and postseason competition.
