Short-handed FCC basketball falters in loss to Columbus State CC

ROCKVILLE, Md. – Within less than 24 hours, the FCC women's basketball team returned to the court to battle Columbus State CC as part of the Montgomery College Tip-Off Classic. Heading into the contest, the Cougars knew they would have a challenge with no help off the bench. Credit to FCC's starting five and Coach Henry for quite a battle this afternoon. Columbus State CC would defeat FCC by the score of 98-83. With the loss, FCC drops to 1-2 on the year.

The Cougars trailed 42-35 after 20 minutes of play. The Cougars would cut into the lead at 58-54 in the third quareter, however, Columbus State CC would protect the lead and hold on for the victory.

Wow! What a breakout game for Nia Powell. She recorded a team-high 32 points (14-of-24 FGs, 4-7 FTs) and pulled down 16 rebounds. Jone Ayers poured in 22 points (10-of-16 FTs) and hauled in 10 rebounds. Darlene King scored 12 points. Teammates Augusta Kamara chipped in with nine points and Amiah Banks finished with eight points. Banks dished out five assists on the afternoon. Credit the FCC starting five for playing all forty minutes!

FCC will return to the hardwood on Wednesday (11/14/18) vs. Howard CC. Tip-off is set for 5:00 P.M. at the Athletics Center on the campus of Frederick Community College.
