FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College women's basketball team hit the hardwood for the first time on Saturday afternoon of the 2018-19 season as they squared off against Community College of Rhode Island as part of the FCC Tip-Off Mixer. The Cougars held on and defeated CCRI, 81-74.
FCC took control early and led a majority of the game taking a 43-33 advantage into the locker room. With just under five minutes to play CCRI roared back to take a 69-66 lead. The two teams would exchange buckets late, and in the end the Cougars would prevail on clutch three-point shooting by Augusta Kamara and the all-important free throws late in a game by Xanthippe Limber.
FCC's Jone Ayers filled up the stat sheet in the victory. Ayers posted a double-double by pouring in 21 points and cleaning up the glass with 10 rebounds. Amiah Banks chipped in with 14 points (4-of-9 3-point FGs). Limber provided Coach Henry a spark off the bench by recording 12 points on 4-of-5 from the field.
The Cougars will return to the court on Nov. 10th when they take part in the Montgomery College Tip-Off Classic. Tip-off is set for 1:00 P.M.
