Second Half Surge Propels FCC Over NOVA

Rockville, MD. – The Frederick Community College women's basketball team defeated Northern Virginia Community College by the score of 69-48 as part of the Montgomery College Tip-Off Tournament. With the victory, FCC improves to 2-1 on the season and the Nighthawks drop to 1-2.

The Cougars came out of the gates hot from the field and built a nine point lead with just three minutes left in the first half. The Nighthawks would shoot their way back into the contest going on their own 10-0 run to take a 31-30 lead over FCC into the intermission. The Cougars would set the tone early in the second half led by sophomore Dajah Gee. FCC would outscore NOVA 39-17 in the second half to secure the victory.

FCC registered four players in double figures led by Dajah Gee with 20 points. Gee would fill up the stat sheet as she pulled down 11 rebounds, recorded four blocked shots, and dished out three assists. Teammate Morgan Cobb poured in 16 points, going 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. Morgan Mitchell came up big as well registering a double-double. Mitchell pumped in 12 points and cleaned up on the glass pulling down 10 rebounds. Jone Ayers chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds for the Cougars.

FCC turned up the heat on defense. The Cougars held the Nighthawks to just 26% (19-of-71) from the field and forced NOVA into 25 turnovers.

The Cougars will return to the hardwood on Sunday as they take on the Panthers from Morton College. Tip-off is set for 11:00 A.M. at Montgomery College (Rockville, MD).
