Rockville, Maryland – Frederick Community College softball picked up a pair of run-rule victories Saturday afternoon at Montgomery College, downing the Raptors, 13-3 and 22-1.
The Cougars (5-5, 2-0) jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after the first frame and never looked back. FCC would add eight more runs in the fourth inning to earn their first victory in conference play. The Cougars pounded out 11 hits and strong pitching performance from Mikayla Toms (2-1).
Mikayla Toms (2-for-3, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBIs), Kayla Green (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBIs), and Emma Bedford (2-for-3, 3B, 3 RBIs, SB) had a pair of hits. Toms and Bedford knocked in three runs, while Green registered a pair of RBIs. Teammate Madison Edwards joined the hit parade with a double.
Toms was dealing in the circle for the Cougars. She pitched a complete game and recorded nine strikeouts in the win. Toms has an overall pitching record of 2-1 on the hill this season.
The Cougars (5-5, 2-0) lit up the scoreboard in the backend of the doubleheader and had a stellar pitching performance by Whitney Dickerson (1-0). FCC recorded 21 hits in the win.
Rachel Benden (3-for-3, 2B, 3 R, SB) Madison Edwards (3-for-5, 3 RBIs, 1 R), Lindsey Thomas (3-for-5, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBIs) and Ryleigh Bolyard (3-for-3, 2 2B, 5 RBIs, 4 R, 2 SB) had three hits each. Teammate Kaitlyn Naill left the yard with one swing of the bat and tallied three RBIs in the win. Taylor Beckley recorded a triple and crossed the plate twice.
Whitney Dickerson (1-0) dominated on the mound for the Cougars. She picked up her first win of the season, giving up just one hit while striking out 12 batters.
