FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College softball team took care of business on Friday afternoon on a gorgeous day in Frederick, Maryland! FCC hosted Allegany College of Maryland club team for a doubleheader and the Cougars made it a clean sweep by the scores of 11-3 and 12-0. FCC improves to 6-17 on the season.
The Cougars trailed by the score of 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning when FCC's Morgan Alder doubled, scoring two runs to take a 4-3 lead. FCC would never look back and won the game by the score of 11-3 in five innings.
Whitney Dickerson started the game for FCC and picked up a no-decision in the circle. She lasted three innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out five and walking one.
Ashley Bentley (4-7) came in relief and picked up the win for Frederick Community College. She tossed two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking one.
The Cougars collected 11 hits in the win. Ashley Garcia, Rachel Jarvis, and Katie Shugars each had two hits for FCC. Cassidy-Thanh Lee-Dinh went 1-for-2 at the plate and knocked in two runs.
FCC starting pitcher McKenzie Haynes had all the right stuff on Friday for the Cougars, allowing zero runs and besting Allegany by the score of 12-0.
FCC jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning by scoring seven runs. The offensive attack by FCC was led by Katie Shugars, Ashley Bentley, Rachel Jarvis, Hannah Laney, Haynes, and Kayla Green, all driving in runs in the first inning.
Haynes (1-6) was credited with the victory on the mound for the Cougars. She went five innings, allowing zero runs on four hits, striking out five and walking zero.
FCC will travel to Anne Arundel CC (Arnold, MD) on Saturday (4/14/18) for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 11:00 A.M.
