Cougars advance to MD JUCO tourney championship game with victory over Fighting Owls

HAGERSTOWN, Md.- The #16 FCC men's basketball team defeated Harford Community College by the score of 91-68 in the second round of the MD JUCO basketball tournament. With the win, FCC advances to the championship game against Baltimore City Community College. The game will be played at Hagerstown Community College with a tipoff time of 4:00 P.M. FCC is 18-8 on the season and winners of five in a row.

Corey Barnett had himself quite a night as he shined on both ends of the court. He registered game-highs in both points and rebounds. Barnett scorched the nets for 27 points on 9-of-14 from the field and pulled down 10 boards. He displayed his full offensive arsenal finishing some tough buckets in the paint and burying some deep jumpers from beyond the arc. Henry Okoye, Ben Meredith and David Garey each chipped in with 13 points. It was a total team effort as each player registered points in the scoring column.

The Cougars were hot from the floor, connecting on 34-of-59 (57.6%) shots.  They continue to sizzle the nets, hitting on 17-of-22 (77.3%) from the charity stripe.

In the first two games of the MD JUCO tourney, Barnett has scored 46 points and continues to dominate in his freshman season. "As a team, we always say anyone can have a big night at any time, and tonight I guess it was just my night," said Barnett. "We are excited to be playing for the championship on Sunday."

FCC Head Coach Emonte Hill and his coaching staff have the team playing well and the Cougars are looking forward to playing in the championship game. "From day one this is a total team effort and they bought in to each other. It is not about the individual," said Hill. "Tomorrow it could be somebody else. For us we have a group of guys that anybody can score the ball. The way they play together, share the ball, they are all about each other."
