Wye Mills, Md. – Corey Barnett scored a game-high 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field to lead Frederick Community College to victory over the Skipjacks from Chesapeake College on Monday night. FCC improves to 15-8 overall, including 6-7 in conference play.
Barnett got plenty of help from teammates Dwayne Garner and Juwan Burnett. Garner has been on a tear as of late, adding another double-double to his season resume. He went for 12 points and 11 rebounds. Burnett provided a spark off the bench with 14 points and a game-high five assists.
FCC took a 27-26 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of play. The Cougars offense exploded for 46 points in the second half. FCC also dialed it up on defense, holding the Skipjacks to just 24.4% shooting from the field on the night.
The Cougars will return to the hardwood on Wednesday (2/6) when they host Montgomery College Raptors in a key MD JUCO conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 7:00 P.M. at the Athletics Center.
