FCC sees its winning streak snapped by PGCC, 84-76

LARGO, Md.- Something had to give after tonight's contest of two hot basketball teams. The No. 14 Frederick Community College men's basketball team hit the road to take on the (RV) Fighting Owls from Prince George's CC. The Fighting Owls were riding a five game winning streak and the Cougars have chalked up nine in a row! The Fighting Owls defeated the Cougars by the score of 84-76. With the loss, FCC falls to 11-2 overall, including 4-1 in conference play. PGCC improves to 9-1 (3-1 MD JUCO) on the season.   

The Cougars trailed at the 7:04 mark in the first half by the score of 31-22. However, FCC would put together a run, cutting the lead to 39-36 at the intermission. David Garey was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and led FCC with 11 points after 20 minutes of action. Corey Barnett tallied nine points in the first twenty minutes of action and Dwayne Garner had himself a perfect first half from the field, tallying eight points on 3-of-3 from the field. The Cougars were a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe in the first frame!

Out of the locker room, the Fighting Owls remained hot shooting the rock! Dexter Turner, Alex Morales, and Darren Rivers would lead the Fighting Owls to victory, tallying a total of 51 points.

The Cougars went cold from beyond the arc, connecting on just 8-of-26 treys. However, the Cougars were a perfect 16-of-16 from the free throw line.

David Garey scored a game-high 24 points on 8-of-13 from the floor for FCC. Corey Barnett tallied 16 points, followed by Ben Meredith with 12 points. Henry Okoye turned in a solid performance with 10 points and nine boards.

FCC will return to the hardwood on Friday vs. Pennsylvania Highlands CC at the Cougar Center. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 P.M.
