Men’s Hoops Returns to Winning Ways with Victory over Mustangs

ROCKVILLE, Md. – Coming off a tough loss to No. 17 Community College of Beaver County on Wednesday night, the FCC men's basketball team took the court on Saturday afternoon against Monroe College JV as part of the Montgomery College Tip-Off Classic. The Cougars turned in a solid performance and beat the Mustangs, 92-62. FCC improves to 3-1 on the year.

In the first 20 minutes of action, FCC's Dwayne Garner filled up the stat sheet! Garner poured in 16 points on 6-of-9 from the field while pulling down six boards. CJ Williams also registered double figures in the first half by netting 10 points. The Cougars dominated the glass, outrebounding the Mustangs, 29-16. FCC took a 14-point lead into the locker room.

The Cougars would come out of the locker room in the second half on fire and did not let off the gas pedal. FCC would post six players in double figures in the win. Point guard David Garey (6-11 FGs, 4-5 FTs) was held scoreless in the first half and exploded for a game-high 17 points in the second twenty minutes of action. Dwayne Garner finished with a double-double, registering 16 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. CJ Williams pumped in 14 points and teammates Ben Meredith and Corey Barnett each chipped in with 12 points. Henry Okoye would net 10 points in the victory.

The Cougars dominated the Mustangs on the glass, outrebounding them, 53-39. FCC played stingy defense all afternoon forcing the Mustangs into 19 miscues and just 22-69 (31.9%) from the field. The Cougars sizzled the nets for 32-68 (47.1%) in the win.     

FCC will be right back at it on Sunday afternoon as they take on Columbus State Community College in the Montgomery College Tip-Off Classic. Tip-off is set for 1:00 P.M.
