FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College men's basketball team is off to a hot start! The Cougars have scorched the nets for a total of 207 points in just two games. The Cougars have turned up the heat defensviely, only giving up an average of 60 points per contest. The Cougars are a perfect 2-0 as they swept through the FCC Tip-Off Mixer. On Saturday afternoon, FCC thumped Manor College by the score of 112-65.
FCC's freshman sensation, Corey Barnett, continues to impress in just his second game in a Cougar uniform. Barnett went for 25 points (8-16 FGs, 6-7 FTs) to lead the Cougars. CJ Williams provided a spark off the bench and shot the ball really well. He finished the contest with 18 points (4-8 FGs, 8-11 FTs) and handed out six assists. Teammates Juwan Burnett and Dwayne Garner each netted 16 points. Garner hauled down nine boards as well and was a force in the paint. Burnett was a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Point guard David Garey had himself quite a game. He finished with 15 points, six assists, and five steals in the victory. Henry Okoye was strong in the middle with eight points and nine rebounds. Okoye also swatted three shots on defense.
FCC shot 48.1% from the field and sizzled the nets from deep, connecting on 12-of-25 shots from 3-point range. The Cougars were clutch at the charity stripe, connecting on 26-of-31 (83.9%).
Up Next: FCC will hit the road on Wednesday (11/7) for a Region XX DII matchup against Community College of Beaver County. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 P.M.
