Columbia, Md. – Wow! Now that is what I call a 'big-time' college basketball game! The No. 10 NJCAA D2 Frederick Community College men's basketball squad rolled to their 20th win of the season by defeating Howard Community College (11-13 overall, 6-8 MD JUCO), 110-104. With the victory, FCC improves to 20-3 on the season, including 11-2 in the conference. It is the second time FCC took down the Dragons this season. FCC defeated HCC on November 10th by the score of 91-83. Give credit to Head Coach Emonte Hill and the men's basketball squad as they pick up a key road victory. This was a total team effort 'W' for Coach Hill and the men's basketball team!
Yes, a number of avid college basketball fans were looking forward to the men's Duke vs. UNC matchup on Thursday night, however FCC vs. Howard CC men's hoops action didn't disappoint. FCC took a 52-43 advantage into the locker room after 20 minutes of play and held onto the lead to earn the victory. The Dragons would not go away quietly. On a number of occasions in the second half, HCC cut into the lead and only trailed by a single bucket. FCC would hit crucial buckets in the waning seconds and knocked down important free throws to seal the victory.
FCC continues to be one of the best in the country when it comes to field goal shooting percentage. As a team, FCC knocked down 37-of- 70 (52.9%) shots from the field. An Achilles' heel for FCC has been their woes at the free throw line. The Cougars stepped up tonight and drained 31-39 (79.5) from the charity stripe.
The Cougars registered six players in double figures led by sophomore phenom Dashon Bell. Bell turned in a stellar performance filling up the stat sheet. He scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-14 from the field. He also played big in the paint pulling down eight rebounds. Bell also dialed it up on the defensive end by swatting three shots in the victory. He was also in the giving mood while dishing out five assists. Keon Claiborne continues to be a spark plug off the bench as he registered a double-double in the victory. Claiborne went for 16 points (6-of-8 FGs) and pulled down 10 boards. Teammates Chris Knight and Marlon White Jr. also played key roles off the bench for FCC. Both Knight and White Jr. pumped in 14 points. 'Big Man' Dwayne Garner came up big in the paint as he pumped in 13 points. Garner was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field.
FCC turned it up on defense forcing the Dragons into 23 miscues. The Cougars outrebounded the Dragons 40-35 in the victory.
