Rockville, Md. – Frederick Community College Cougars men's basketball team hit the road to open conference play on Wednesday night against a talented Montgomery College squad. The Cougars came out of the locker room clicking on all cylinders and earned the victory over the Raptors, 73-61. With the victory, FCC sits at 4-1 overall, including 1-0 in the conference. The Raptors fall to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.
From the tip, FCC was in control of the contest as the Cougars took a 39-23 lead into the locker room after the first 20 minutes of action. In the second half, FCC would build a comfortable 50-28 lead at the 15 minute mark, however, the Raptor would not go away quietly, cutting the Cougar lead to just nine with five minutes to play. A Keon Claiborne 3-pointer would seal the deal late and the Cougars would secure the victory.
The Cougars registered four players in double figures led by Dwayne Garner. He pumped in a team-high 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, while pulling down six boards. Dashon Bell continues to shine on the offensive end netting 13 points. Bell would also pull down eight rebounds in the victory. Marlon White Jr. came off the bench and chipped in with 12 points and Kenneth Stancell Jr. scored 10 points. FCC point guard Morris Robinson turned in a nice game as well chipping in with seven points and handing out seven assists.
FCC turned in a solid performance on the defensive end slowing down a potent Raptors offense. The Cougars forced MC into 19 miscues and the Raptors shot just 23-of-54 (42.6%) from the field.
The Cougars will return to the hardwood on Saturday when they host Mercer County Community College. Tip-off is set for 1:00 P.M.
