Former FCC star Jett Manning selected by Giants in MLB Draft

FREDERICK, Md. – On Wednesday afternoon, a dream became a reality when former Frederick Community College All-American shortstop Jett Manning (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield HS) was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 20th round (586 overall) in the Major League Baseball draft.

Manning continued his academic and athletic career at the University of Alabama this season and started all 53 games for the Crimson Tide. The talented shortstop ranked fourth on the team in hits with 45 and finished this season with a .251 batting average. Manning tied for fourth in multi-hit games with 10 and recorded a pair of five-game hitting streaks throughout the season for the Crimson Tide.

In two seasons (2016 & 2017) at FCC, Manning turned in a stellar career for the Cougars shining offensively and defensively. He tallied a total of 131 hits in two seasons and knocking in 77 RBIs. Additionally, Manning led his team in batting average each season and led in nearly every offensive category. In his sophomore season he slugged 23 doubles and posted an astonishing .542 OBP. He inked his name in the records books at FCC in 2017 by swiping 33 bases. The single-season record was previously held by Chris Mattison (21, 2015). Additionally, Manning hit four homers during his sophomore campaign.
