Cougars Drop Second Game of Double Dip

WYE MILLS, Md. – FCC baseball let game two of the doubleheader with Chesapeake College slip away after leading by the score of 3-1 after four innings. The Skipjacks would score four runs in the fifth inning and that would be the difference as Chesapeake defeated FCC, 11-4. With the loss, FCC is 32-15 (18-6 MD JUCO) on the year. The Skipjacks sit at 41-6 overall on the year and sit at the top of the MD JUCO conference with a record of 21-1.

Inside the Box Score

FCC would waste little time jumping on the scoreboard in the first frame. The Cougars would plate three runs on four hits. Mitch Long would get things going with a double setting the table for the meat of the order. Eric Naylor would single and Brady Harju would come to the plate and follow up with a single, scoring Long. Thomas Gonzalez came through in the clutch with a single that would score both Naylor and Harju.

FCC left-handed pitcher Travis Reapsome got the start on the hill for the Cougars. The lefty was cruising through the first four innings. He got in a jam in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Skipjacks loaded the bases. Logan Bruckschen relieved Reapsome with two outs, however, the Skipjacks would tack on four runs in the inning. A key miscue in the field by FCC opened the door for the big four-run inning. The Skipjacks did damage as well in the bottom of the sixth by hanging six runs on the scoreboard, putting the Skipjacks up eight runs heading into the last at-bats for the Cougars.

Reapsome (4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 Ks, 2 BB) gets hit with the loss and falls to 1-2 on the year. FCC registered nine hits in the loss. Mitch Long had himself a nice game. The sweet-swinging lefty smacked a single, double, and triple. He now has six triples on the year. The record-holder for triples in a single-season is held by Carl Wastler (8, 1985) and Devin Bell (8, 2015). Long is hitting .339 is his freshman season.
