FREDERICK, Md. - Are you ready for some baseball? The calendar may read January 25th, but first pitch for the Frederick Community College baseball team is just 21 days away. On Thursday, the NJCAA released its preseason rankings and the Cougars are sitting at No. 20 in Division 2. It is the 16th straight year that the Cougars have cracked the national poll with Head Coach Rodney Bennett at the helm.
Entering his 16th season as the skipper of the Cougars, Head Coach Rodney Bennett (572-231) is ready to roll and excited for the challenge. "As a coaching staff and team, we focused hard on putting together a solid fall offseason that would carry strong momentum into the spring," said Bennett. "I am ready for opening day as I am pleased with the pitching staff. On paper, this may be one of the deepest rotations I've had as a college head coach. As for our positional players, I am confident we are going to put some runs on the board and be strong defensively."
The Cougars ended the 2017 campaign with an overall record of 39-16 and made it to the championship game of the Region XX D2 Tourney, eventually falling to CCBC Catonsville in the championship game by the score of, 7-6.
FCC will hit the field for Opening Day on February 16th when they play host to Hood College JV. First pitch is set for 2:00 P.M.
